Do you want to be controlled too?

kgrhqeoknie2vrz-1obnydbsyzgw_35Why is it necessary for people to criticize or even try to control other people’s harmless actions.  If the actions of others don’t effect you why object?  Same sex relationships, opposite sex relationships, other sexual practices between consenting adults don’t seem to be a public concern.   Love is not something that can be controlled.  It is great when ones Love and sexual attraction coincide but that isn’t always the case..  Sexual attraction sometimes must be controlled but when the sexual attraction is mutual and safe those involved should be free to choose the experience.  I don’t consider religious arguments as applicable.
Religion or the lack of a religion is a personal choice not one made for other people.  The act of trying to control other people’s religious choices has most certainly not made the world a better place…a bit of an understatement.  I believe the world would be a better place without religions altogether, but I respect other people’s right to believe what they want.
I’ve seen todays-gay-marriage-case-just-became-a-lot-more-importantthe ‘coexist’ images in various formats and I respect the intent but it goes no further than ‘Live and Let Live’ of the 60’s and 70’s and it doesn’t work.  The only real way is mutual respect not just tolerance.  Please share your thoughts.

Government Waste and Mismanagement

dumps-716412Folks, I was in the U.S. Army years ago, and I now live close to a major U.S. Army installation and a major U.S. Air Force base. I want to bring up a subject that I find irritating. I realize it is important to have the equipment ready for units to respond to threats. What I see though is hundreds of extra land vehicles, marine vehicles, airplanes that never get used as well as land set aside and unused. When I look at auctions the bulk of the vehicles being sold have low miles and/or hours. I expect there is an excess of nearly all material. There are even Navy ships sitting and rotting. Basically I think the entire federal government is a money pit. In my opinion there needs to be a house cleaning. Unused equipment that can be used outside the government should be sold. If new items are purchased they should replace the old items as soon as possible and old items should be sold, recycled or repaerial5urposed.

Consider the amount of property that is set aside for government use only…is it all really necessary?  Everywhere you look there are areas off limits to the people who actually own them. How much do they really have to hide? What better uses could some of that property be put to. There are even complete military housing areas vacant.

I would not expect to compromise the militaries readiness but enough is enough. The billions in government waste should be a priority issue.

Pondering a Pyramid

Great Pyramid of Gizabuilding_giza_pyramid_bbc_5

The Great Pyramid is said to contain 2.3 million limestone and granite blocks averaging 2.5 tones each and over 144,000 polishes limestone blocks for the casing. There is also a great amount of excavation below the ground level. This was supposedly accomplished starting 1584BC and completed 1540BC. That’s 44 years which means site preparation and excavation, then cutting shaping and placing all those stones. I see artists showing great lines of people pulling these stones up ramps but none have showed locating and placing them. I find the idea of a perimeter ramp that climbs through square corners quite incredible. I for one do not see how 20 – 30 stones a day could go up such a path and be placed. I believe a long single earthan ramp would have a greater volume than the Great Pyramid itself.  Your thoughts?the Great Pyramid of Giza

Birds Taking Chances

Birds Taking Chances

A robin hit our window pane the other day,
the glass was solid and he didn’t go threw,
why he hit so hard I really can’t say,
but we tried to save him we did all we could do.

We carefully lifted the robin from where he had fallen
we poked and prodded and inspected
The accident for him so sudden,
He rests now, nature’s finality respected.

A sparrow smacked the greenhouse door.
We saw her fall her among the pots and plants,
After a bit of searching I found her there on the floor,
Knocked senseless but alive so she had a chance.

Unlike the robin the sparrow was not broken,
We lifted her up and checked her all over
She perched on my hand our hopes unspoken.
Soon she recovered and flew into a bush for cover.

You must know how to enjoy nature’s dance,
while realizing you’re always taking a chance

A little personal history…please comment

Do you truly know what you believe?  How much of what you believe can be supported with proof?  I wish to be given proofs.  I was told I must have faith during my Christian upbringing.  Whenever I asked what faith is I got a very long answer that meant believing something without proof so I decided I appreciated the morality and fellowship and hoped I could develop the faith part.

Then I joined the Army and we trained to maim, kill, and destroy. What happened to my Christian upbringing then?  Well it got a whole lot more Old Testament than it was.  Where Jesus would turn the other cheek we were taught to fight. I was eighteen years old and nearly halfway around the world.  I was confused and lonely so, giving in to intense peer pressure, I learned to get drunk and enjoy intimate company of woman.  What should I believe now?

After a few years of military service I stopped drinking to excess and I got married at the age of twenty one.  I had very little money. my Army Unit was sent out to the field for weeks and months at a time my wife was with me and if my life was awful hers was worse. I prayed for help.  It breaks my heart even now to realize what she went through.  I was reaching the end of my enlistment when we found out my wife was pregnant.  I left the Army and we went home.  What should I believe now?

Our folks knew the problems we had been through and wanted the best for us but what that was in their eyes I don’t know for sure.  We prepared for the baby getting all sorts of neat baby stuff.  We were thankful for our baby we felt he represented the goodness that came out of our past difficulties.  My wife had her baby shower.  It was getting close to time and our life was improving.  Then one day I was at work and I got a phone call.  Something was wrong with the baby.  I prayed for help.  I went to the hospital chapel and prayed.  I even went outside the hospital and called on heaven under the open stars.  I then went back into the hospital and supported my wife as our little boy was born dead.  How would you describe this God I prayed to.  What should I believe now.

For a while my wife and I stayed together.  I took her to school daily to work toward her High School Diploma.  We worked hard and prayed to make things work for months, but with troubles in our past proved insurmountable we eventually decided on an uncontested divorce.  Still no Divine Intervention.  I was still hurting from the death of our child and our divorce I decided to quit the job I was doing and go long-haul trucking alone and kept at it for five years.

Space Exploration…Mars and more

The Moon is the next big step in exploration.  I had hoped that we’d have a permanent moon base by now. I believed as a child watching the moon landing in 1969 that we might even get to Mars by the year 2000.  Hurry up guys I’m running out of time!  The ‘powers that be’ need a kick in the pants to get moving.  Maybe if idiots would stop trying to kill each other we could get some real worthwhile work done!  The first company or country to get boots on the ground will be the first to profit from doing so.

Tax Increases

Taxes are calculated on purchased products, and some items have a higher tax rate than others.

So let’s look at road tax.  Usually road tax is the tax on fuel purchases.  Over the years vehicles have become more fuel efficient decreasing the tax revenue because less fuel is purchased so the tax per unit (liter or gallon)  has gone up.  All you see usually is the cost per gallon.

So the penalty for being more fuel efficient is a higher tax rate.

The same thing is happening with tobacco.  A certain amount of tax revenue was being generated by the tax on tobacco, as more and more people quit revenue began to go down so the tax per unit had to raise to keep the tax money coming in.

Now the government is trying to get it’s claws into the ecig market and begin collecting on that.
